Experience Overview
We leave Orosei by off-road vehicle and as a first stop we visit the Madau necropolis where you can learn about the history of the four giants’ tombs which are still preserved in excellent condition today.
The experience of our guide will open the doors to the ancient world of Nuragic civilizations with a story full of anecdotes and traditions of our Sardinian ancestors.
Orgosolo Experience continues to discover the Montes forest, one of the wildest areas of the Supramonte. After admiring the spectacle of the panorama by off-road vehicle, we will arrive on foot on the top of Monte Novo S. Giovanni. We are at an altitude of 1316 meters, a real natural monument with spiers up to 70 meters high, where endemic floral rarities grow.
You will feel like you are in a paradise and you will be able to admire the wonderful view of the green expanse of the forest.
After these first two stages amidst the scents and nature of Barbagia, a well-deserved lunch break awaits us in an ancient fold of a Sardinian shepherd, at “Su Pinnetu”. You will taste the typical food of Orgosolo produced at home. From the famous Sardinian pecorino cheese to smoked ricotta, you can also taste traditional cured meats such as bacon and sausage, boiled sheep and roast suckling pig. Combined with these local specialties, you will find glasses of Cannonau wine, homemade myrtle and Su Filu e Ferru, the typical Sardinian Brandy.
For the last stage of the Orgosolo Experience tour you will get to know the famous murals of the place. The typical paintings on the facades of the town have made Orgosolo famous as a town-museum which, almost as if to retrace the traditional art of Mexico, has made the town over the years a fascinating place rich in art with as many as 300 wall paintings, a technique which itself an ancient story and the tale of Sardinian customs.
Finally, but only upon request, you can conclude the tour with a visit to the Casa Museo Tramas de Seda, a small museum dedicated to the processing of the silkworm. You will be able to participate in an artisan laboratory for the breeding of silkworms of the rare “Orgosolo breed” which produce a filament with a characteristic yellow colour. The silk thus obtained is used for the weaving of Su Lionzu, or the headdress worn by women in the traditional dress of Sardinian Folklore.
