With its 44,000 inhabitants, Alghero is the fifth largest city in Sardinia. It is the island’s main harbour town, home to Fertilia Airport and one of the most beloved destinations thanks to its scenic promenade along the old bastions, red rooftops reaching toward the sky, and a stunning natural bay that opens onto emerald waters.
The coastline stretches for about 90 km and is known as the Coral Riviera, named after the rich colony of high-quality red coral found in the area. The most famous beach is Le Bombarde, known for its crystal-clear water and clean sandy seabed — a favourite among families, young travellers, and surf enthusiasts. Just a kilometre away lies Lazzaretto, a collection of ten small coves with soft sandy shores. Further along, in the Bay of Porto Conte, you'll find Mugoni Beach — a peaceful retreat of golden sand and calm, clear waters, protected by a lush pine forest and ideal for a relaxing day by the sea.
